Mr. and Mrs. Smith Series, Starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine, Gets Premiere Date

Prime Video have announced a release date for their series Mr. & Mrs. Smith, the streamer’s upcoming romantic-comedy-thriller starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine.

This re-telling of the 2005 movie starring Brad Pitt and Angeline Jolie is set to premiere on February 2 next year. The eight-episode series follows a pair of strangers (played by Glover and Erskine) who get recruited to work at a spy agency, which promises them the good life at the cost of being in a non-negotiable arranged marriage.

Produced and created by Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane, Mr. & Mrs. Smith was originally scheduled to release in 2022 before being pushed back to 2023. Amazon further delayed the series during the WGA and SAG/AFTRA strikes that dominated Hollywood this summer. Now that both unions and the AMPTP have come to an agreement, the strikes are in the books, so the series finally has a new release date.

Amazon released the announcement alongside a handful of stills from the production featuring Glover and Maya Erskine in their roles as Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Other stars, like Michaela Coel, Paul Dano, and John Turturo who’ve been reported to make an appearance in the series are notably missing from these stills.

These images, alongside about 10 seconds’ worth of short clips aired in some promotional material for Amazon’s streaming are all we’ve seen from the upcoming rom-com spy thriller mashup. Considering the premiere’s just under three months away, we’re likely to recieve a trailer sometime soon.

Following in Amazon’s new release cadence, the Streamer will release all eight episodes of Mr. & Mrs. Smith to stream on Prime Video starting on February 2, 2024. Or, if you’re looking for some mid-aughts nostalgia, you can watch the original Mr. & Mrs. Smith through a Starz subscription or rent it through YouTube or Amazon Prime.
