Scott Pilgrim Takes Off’s Star-Studded Japanese Voice Cast Revealed Alongside Special Trailer

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off’s Japanese voice cast has finally been revealed, and it’s a pretty impressive list of actors. If you consider yourself a casual anime watcher and don’t immediately recognize some of the voice actors’ names, there’s still a good chance you’ve heard their voices before, as they’ve appeared in Demon Slayer, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and other popular shows.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, by Science Saru, is an anime adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s beloved graphic novel, Scott Pilgrim. The show follows a guitarist named Scott who must defeat his new girlfriend Ramona Flowers’ seven exes to date her. O’Malley is an executive producer for the anime alongside Edgar Wright, the director of the 2010 live-action film, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

Scott Pilgrim was already a bit of an anime itself before it was adapted into a film with its larger-than-life characters, tournament arc fight scenes, and cutesy and stylish art style, so it’s appropriate that its anime adaptation would have some big-name voice actors in it.

Here’s the full cast list:

  • Hiro Shimono as Scott Pilgrim
  • Fairouz Ai as Ramona Flowers
  • Tomokazu Seki as Gideon Graves
  • Shinji Saito as Matthew Patel
  • Kana Hanazawa as Envy Adams
  • Yuichi Nakamura as Lucas Lee
  • Wataru Hatano as Todd Ingram
  • Naomi Ohzora as Roxie Richter
  • Shunsuke Takeuchi as Ken Katayanagi and Kyle Katayanagi
  • Aoi Koga as Knives Chau
  • Katsuya Fukunishi as Wallace Wells
  • Yuto Kawasaki as Young Neil
  • Tomo Muranaka as Kim Pine
  • Anri Katsu as Stephen Still

Hiro Shimono, who plays Scott Pilgrim’s titular hero, is known for his previous anime roles as Demon Slayer’s skittish samurai Zenitsu Agatsuma, Attack on Titan’s Conny Springer, and My Hero Academia’s fiery villain Dabi. Ramona’s voice actor, Fairouz Ai, meanwhile, has a ton of experience lending her voice to some of anime’s most fierce leading ladies. Chief among them being Chainsaw Man’s blood devil Power and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’s Jolyne Cujoh.

We wrote in our review, “The sooner you watch Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, the less time you’ll spend worrying about spoilers, and the sooner you’ll get to enjoy a breathtaking reimagining of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s graphic novels. Even with the core cast of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World along for the ride, it’s no mere exercise in nostalgia, but a fresh coat of paint on a versatile coming-of-age story, whose vibrant animation and expanded scope bring new dimensions to the garage rockers, video-store clerks, ninja-couriers, and evil exes who inhabit ‘Toronto, Canada – Not Too Long Ago.’”

All in all, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off’s star-studden Hollywood and Japanese cast is compelling enough to make any anime watcher want to experience the show in both dubs or subs. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off releases on Netflix today.
